Message from RI President

Francesco Arezzo, President 2025-26

September 2025

For September 2025, Rotary International President Francesco Arezzo focused on the theme “Peace Through Education“, emphasizing the Rotary years overarching presidential theme, Unite for GoodHe highlighted that September is Basic Education and Literacy Month, urging Rotarians to strengthen learning in their communities by supporting literacy programs and providing access to education. The message stressed that education is a crucial building block for human dignity, economic mobility, and, ultimately, peac

Key Points from the President’s Message:
  • Focus on Literacy:

The message called for action to combat illiteracy and ensure that every child has access to basic education, especially marginalized youth and girls.

  • Education as a Pathway to Peace:

Arezzo connected education directly to the larger goal of peace, noting that every scholarship, classroom, or teacher training program contributes to a more peaceful world.

  • The overarching theme encouraged members to combine their talents and resources with other organizations and communities to create lasting change.

  • Call to Action:

Rotarians were urged to welcome new members passionate about education and to initiate or support service projects focused on building libraries, distributing textbooks, and mentoring students.

  • Equity in Education:
The message emphasized that education must be equitable, ensuring that every learner, regardless of their background, has the opportunity to fulfill their potential.

At first, it was a breeze. We wound through misty-green coffee and corn fields covering the hillside like a patchwork quilt. But at a river crossing, we found a bridge washed away. The only way to continue would be to ford the river in our small bus. There were a few tense moments, but we decided to give it a try and, thankfully, we made it across safely.

This adventure reminds me of two important truths in Rotary. One, we rely on local, on-the-ground expertise to do what we do best. And two, sometimes you have to take uncomfortable chances to reach important goals.

Every day, I am honored to learn from our Rotary family. Every lesson is an opportunity to grow, and each story adds a chapter to our collective Imagine Rotary year.
